Lindow vs Urmston (A)

Jonny Stubbs them out!

Lindow U15s had their best win of the season so far at Urmston on a beautiful day for cricket. Captain Tom Meachin won the toss and elected to bat on a great looking pitch. Opening with Jethro Norman they took the score to 41 before Jethro was bowled and Jonathan Taylor came to the crease, having seen off the opening bowlers this pair started to spray the ball around the pitch, car park and adjoining tennis courts, before Tom was bowled in the 17th over for 72 with the partnership lasting exactly 100 runs. Ollie McCall came in and continued the punishment of the Urmston bowlers including a six off the last ball of the innings.

Urmston needed 172 to win and with the third ball of the first over George Du Fresne sent the bails over the wicket keeper’s head following this in his next over with a caught and bowled. Sharp fielding from Jethro Norman saw the third batsmen fall for a run out with the score on 34 and then the collapse began. Tom Meachin took a great diving catch off the bowling of Ben Lambert before James Todd took two wickets including a great caught and bowled in his first over. more...

Stretford vs Lindow

George finally won a toss (one more than the manager who lost the toss to decide the Cheshire Cup match with Ashley that had twice been rained off) and elected to bat. Will Batterbury and Johnny Taylor opened and took the sting out of the Stretford attack, Will confidently taking singles and Johnny giving anything not on line the full treatment. Tommy Lawton came to the crease and continued where he left off in the last game playing great strokes. George Du Fresne made a brief contribution after Johnny retired, but was caught off a slower ball. Rohan then pushed the score along with two identical fours off his legs from consecutive balls. After George Powell and Brad were caught in consecutive overs by the same fielder, Robert Taylor made an aggressive debut to push the score on 94 before Tommy was stumped coming down the wicket to the Stretford spinner with three balls to go. Jamie Grace came in to take a quick single and the innings ended on 95 for 6.

The Stretford opener thought he was off the mark on the first ball of the innings with a sweetly struck shot over mid wicket only to see Johnny Taylor leap with outstretched left hand and pluck the ball from the air. The Stretford captain and wicketkeeper then played some great shots to push the score on to 26 before loosing his off stump. In the next over George Powell struck with his deceptive pace and again in the eighth over. The Stretford batsmen breathed a sigh of relief as the opening bowlers ended their spell, only to be replaced by the lethal left arm of Johnny and another tight spell including a wicket maiden. So confused were the batsmen and unable to score runs because of the excellent fielding that they sought runs that weren’t there and quick fielding saw the sixth batsmen return to the pavilion. George Gibson-Smith also making his Under 13s debut stepped up to bowl and made an immediate claim as next year’s Under 13s opening bowler with two wickets in his first over, one bowled and a catch at cover. After Alasdair had taken a wicket in his first over it was left to George G-S to earn Lindow our first bowling bonus point with Jamie Grace taking a good catch at mid off and Stretford all out for 65 in the 19th over.
