Bunbury’s Lindow Bunnies
17 May 2008, Lindow 1st XI vs. Bunbury
Lindow (1pt) lost to Bunbury (20) by 9 wickets
Lindow’s weakened first XI suffered a humiliating defeat against Bunbury, batting ineptly to post an indefensible total of just 57. Drizzle delayed the start and reduced the match to 37 overs a side, though Lindow batted for just 23. The pitch was certainly helpful for bowling and Bunbury exploited conditions well, but Lindow can have no excuses for slumping from 19 for 1 to 32 for 6, after which a final total of 57 represented a recovery. Only Burgoyne (11) and Ahmed (14) reached double figures for the home side, who’s decision to bat first might with hindsight be considered questionable! Harris starred for the visitors, taking 7 for 24 with his accurate medium pace.
Such a low score was never likely to be defensible and, sure enough, the visitors coasted to victory in just 15 overs with only 1 scalp taken to spare Lindow’s blushes, Andy Hume the successful bowler. After this crushing defeat, Lindow need to regroup quickly for next week’s long away trip to Castrol Superseal.
