Sunday saw Lindow host Lymm Oughtrington Park in the Cheshire Cup with a much weakened side.
In an enjoyable game Lindow had their moments in reducing the visitors to 67 for 5 as Casey Hughes struck 2 early blows on his way to excellent figure of 2 for 33 for the home side in an impressive opening burst. Chris Wickenden also got into the game with 2 wickets and an excellent direct hit run out. But Lymm’s batting line up was deeper than Lindow’s bowling and Wright (64) and Knowles (67 n.o.) added 140 for the 6th wicket despite the best efforts of the rarely used Paul Slinn, who did a steady job bowling 8 overs for 32 runs, as Lymm posted an imposing target of 231 for 6, which always looked a tough ask for the home side.
In reply Lindow made a game of it for a while, despite losing pinch hitter Hughes (6)and Fernyhough (7) cheaply. Skipper James Bracewell posted 32 and Dave Foreman made an impressive 43 in taking Lindow to 71 for 2 in good time before wickets started to fall.After that only Slinn (23) hung around until the show was stolen by the free swinging Chris Wickenden (35), who hit 3 sixes before he was last out with the score at 167.
So, an honourable defeat for Lindow and good practice for a number of important players with critical league games coming up.
