16 May 2009, Lindow CC 1st XI vs. Wistaston Village (h)
Knock Out by Foreman
Lindow 212 for 5 dec, Wistaston Village 123 all out
Lindow (25pts) beat Wistaston Village (4) by 89 runs
Lindow’s recent good form finally yielded a win as struggling visitors Wistaston Village were ruthlessly swept aside at Upcast Lane.
Lindow lost the toss and were asked to bat in the damp conditions, but the pitch showed few demons as Law (39) and Bracewell (14) got the innings off to a flying start and Lindow never looked back. The openers fell in quick succession and Foreman and Slinn (26) got their heads down for while, picking off the runs as best they could in posting a half-century stand. Dave Foreman’s timing was off initially, but he gradually turned his stay into an innings of real substance. Mike Parr (29) joined him in a rapid stand of 53 and Foreman himself cruised past 50 as Lindow swept towards 200 against bowling that simply could not stem the tide until he finally skied one to be dismissed for a dominant 71. Hume (18*) and Ed Farmer (7*) kept the momentum going until Skipper Henry Grover decided that enough was enough, declaring after just 39 overs with the score 212 for 5.
The home side had given themselves 51 overs to bowl the visitors out, but in the end they needed only 40. Matt Bradshaw (1 for 33) made an early breakthrough and though Owen (21) and Barner (26) tried to mount a charge, Homy Masud (1 for 12) removed Barner to a legside catch by keeper Foreman and from then on it became something of a procession as Wistaston did their best to mount a dogged rearguard action. Hume (2 for 15) and Law (2 for 26) both got in on the act before Grover came back on to clean up the tail and finish with excellent figures of 4 for 28. Allwood swung the willow late on for an unbeaten 25, bur Wistaston were bowled out for just 123 to take only 4 points away with them, while their hosts claimed the maximum 25 for the first time this season.
