26 April 2008 - Lindow 2nd XI vs Alvanley (A)
2nd XI Slump to opening day defeat
Lindow 5 points. Alvanley 25 points
The 2's travelled to Alvanley on Saturday seeking to start the promotion push after just missing out last season.
Skipper Dave Kendrick won the toss and elected to field. Openers Khalid Ahmed (12 overs, 0 for 43) and Alex Pate (5 overs, 0 for 17) kept things tight on a soft pitch. The home side started to build their innings and had a solid 43 off the first 14 overs. Kendrick (10 overs, 2 for 32) replaced Pate and quickly made an impact removing opener Geddis for 38. A good run out then followed and Alvanley started to struggle. Squires, Farmer and Coldwell were unable to pick up the wicket of Charles who slogged his way to 71 quickly. There were few chances given, apart from a top edge that Gedrodge's energetic dive was unable to stop. Alvanley closed on 166 for 6.
Lindow's innings started well with openers Farmer and Wild looking comfortable, until Farmer playd his shot too early and was caught. Peel followed for a duck with Lindow looking ontrouble. Squires came to the crease and playd some great shots for his 29, eventually being caught. Burgoyne and Pate both only managed 1 run each, with the 167 target looking a tough call on 87 for 5. Kendrick went into bat and started to punish the Alvanley bowling after Wild who was still at the crease in the 24th over was clean bowled. He picked up 33 and was caugfht going for a big shot. Ahmed followed next ball and the game was all but over! The final stumping of Rowlands who was batting with Gedrodge meant Lindow came up 25 runs short.
