30th May 2009 - Lindow CC 2nd XI vs CH Ladybridge (H)

2nd XI start to close in on promotion spots

Lindow CC 157 for 3, CH Ladybridge 153 for 6

Lindow (25pts) beat CH Ladybridge (8) by 7 wickets.

An excellent performance at Upcast Lane saw Lindow take 25 points from what was on paper a tough game against 5th placed CH Ladybridge.

Ladybridge won the toss and chose to bat first on what looked a good pitch and a fast outfield. Khalid Ahmed (0-28) and Laurie McClymont (1-32) opened the bowling for Lindow and both bowled good spells, with McClymont making the breakthrough by removing opener Massey for just 3. Ladybridge began to accumulate runs steadily until the introduction of skipper Dave Kendrick, who after an erratic first over bowled accurately and economically to remove the Ladybridge middle order and recorded excellent figures of 16-7-49-4, including two wickets in two balls in his second over. At the other end Adi Konda bowled a tight spell, finishing with figures of 1-32 from 13 overs having been a little unlucky with several good LBW shouts turned down. Ladybridge finished their innings on a very chaseable 153-6, but were helped by some sloppy Lindow fielding in the last few overs.

With 154 the target, Lindow opened with Jamie Peel and James Wild and got off to a good start, with 42 on the board from 11 overs before Wild was bowled for 23, bringing Adi Konda to the crease. After a brief period of consolidation Peel was dismissed LBW for 22 however this proved to be no setback, as Konda and new batsman Alex Pate batted intelligently and punished the bad ball well to bring Lindow within sight of victory with a stand of 70. When Pate was out caught and bowled for 28, Dave Gilligan came in and supported Konda well to the finish, striking some lusty blows in compiling 19* including finishing the game with a six. Konda finished on 55* having marshalled the innings superbly and sent anything loose speeding to the boundary. A good batting display saw Lindow get no further in the order than number 5, and knock off the required 154 in just over 30 overs to amass the full 25 points available to them.
